It started in stock control. Not as a graduate scheme or a stepping stone — as the person actually responsible for operational integrity across some of the most valuable stock in London. YSL. Missoni. Dolce & Gabbana. Temperley. Always behind the scenes. Always the one accountable when things went wrong.

At 21, I was managing a 35,000 sq ft warehouse at Proibito — 15 staff, 20+ stores across the UK and Europe. That’s not a junior role with a junior title. It’s operational leadership before most people have worked out what they want to do.

Then Bellis Hardware changed everything. Five years as Director of Operations in New Delhi, embedded in Indian factories. Casting. Metalwork. Finishing. PVD coating. Real cost-of-goods at component level. Products that went into the Burj Khalifa, The Shard, JW Marriott Dubai.

That’s where the Czech & Speake result came from. I didn’t guess that fragrance vials could go from middleman pricing to 8 cents a unit. I knew — because I’d stood on the factory floor and understood what things actually cost to make.
